I'm now doing a course in Computer Games Art. Its the big one, the three year haul, but it'll be worth it! In little more than a month I'm able to semi-confidently use 3DS Max, I'm involved in a small group to make a game level, and had to move and meet new people.

So what does this mean? What it means is that I have to rethink my online prescence. I need to expand to create a true portfolio and unfortunately, DeviantArt doesn't cut it.
I've come to realise that DeviantArt is a social space and that trends and consistency are the way to gain attention and while I'm not here to become super popular, with only 10 watchers and only little bits of feedback here and there, I need to focus on a place where I can potentially get a little more focus on 3D, and other art relatig to the games industry. This needs to be done at my own pace. This site is great for hobby art, illustrators, fan art, fandom groups and so on however, I need to focus on Sketchfab and ArtStation these days. It doesn't mean I'm leaving, it just means instead of trying to become popular here, I'm going to try and become recognised there. I want my work to get comments, I want feedback, so when I have time to spend more time here I will, but I also need to find my niche too.

Happy creatung, see you all around! :)

Hi all, so basically I've been away because I've been busy. I did an animation course this year and came away with a Pass which was disappointing considering my Distinction* Distinction* Distinction grade last year for my illustration course.

I think my sketchbook work was lacking this time, however. Not as much pre-production drawings, sketch studies, artist research and so on. However, my animations can be found here! jedstuart.wix.com/jed-stuart-a…

I will be updating that to make a student portfolio soon as well, for the best of my illustrative work and paintings and 3D work.

Animation was a very different way of working, and I focused far too much on an end result I was happy with rather than the build up. Right now, I've been taking a break from all art to game, spend time with friends, sort out my next course for next year, hopefully find a job, and make Live Action Role Play (LARP) gear. Yup, I do LARP now!

By July, I want to get back into doing art, and although I only have a few watchers, I'm putting this out there so I've said it publically, and I make sure to start creating art again. Lately I've just needed a rest and to reset my sleeping pattern and regain motivation.

So, I hope you all have a good Summer! I hope to come back with some good stuff to show you. I'll upload my animation stuff soon, stills with links and so on. See you around :)

How long does it take you to do a painting? Or any piece of art?
How do you make your work flow efficient?
How do you get over perfectionism, self critique and admonishment, while still creating art in a timely fashion?
How do you know when to stop a piece of art?

I have trouble with time.. I try to perfect all of my work, sometimes I get an idea, and I do it until its done so a few hours work turns into a few days. A speed painting for me iis 5 hours in one day minimum, and this isn't good.. So, I guess I just need advice!
Thanks!

An Introduction

1 min read
Hi! I'm a student studying art, hoping to get into working for the games industry with 2D & 3D art. I also have interest in promotional art, illustration and box art - especially that of books and game covers.

I'm heavily inspired from art from old games like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the Might & Magic series, Sacrifice (from Interplay and Shiny), and many others.
